The show received praise from critics and a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actress on TV. The part she was playing in the 2014 movie was changed and revived for the year 2019. Bell appeared in the musical Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical (2005) as Mary Lane. This was an opportunity to reprise her role from her New York musical. Bell was also in Heroes, the drama about superheroes, as Elle Bishop, from 2007 to in 2008. Bell played Narrator of the title for the teen drama series Gossip Girl. The 2021 sequel will have her reprising this role. Bell also played Jeannie van der Hooven, the female lead on the Showtime comedy series House of Lies. Bell was the lead character Eleanor Shellstrop, the leading role on the critically acclaimed NBC comedy show The Good Place. She was nominated for the Golden Globe Award.
